Description
BROOKLYN BRIDGE NEW YORK - a dynamic color photo, featuring the world-famous Brooklyn Bridge in New York City with its gothic tower and cables - but this photo is unique, as it presents all the beauty of the historic bridge in a close-up from below, hitting all its significant architectural features very dramatically and in brilliant colors, as the sun was in good position to enlighten the spider-like cables together with the brownstone facade of the gothic tower, one of the artist`s best New York photos...
Brooklyn Bridge was built in 1883, connecting the boroughs Brooklyn and Manhattan, a masterpiece of New York architecture. With a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3 meters), it was the longest suspension bridge in the world from its opening until 1903, and the first steel-wire suspension bridge. Infant amid the wonders of the world, 100 year old Brooklyn Bridge ranks among the most graceful works of man, spanning New York`s East River on two towers with neo-gothic arches, an elegant spiderwork of cables. Some more impressive data: Total length 5,989 feet (1825 m) - Height 276.5 ft (84.3 m) above mean high water - Width 85 feet (26 m) - carries motor vehicles (cars only), elevated trains (until 1944), streetcars (until 1950), pedestrians and bicycles - designer John Augustus Roebling.
